Okay so this is my first post. and I want to start by telling you a little something about my smallest blue. he was born on the 4th June 2017 weighing a health 7lb 2oz. He was always hard work to give a bottle to we tried 4 different types of bottle from Tommee Tippee to cheap Sainsburys own and he finally settled on Avent bottles. He accepted these bottles but still dribbled a lot out but we thought nothing of it as he was gaining weight and the health visitors weren't worried. He was growing in to a very happy little boy. He got the usual baby illnesses colds, coughs and croup but nothing fazed him. During one episode he had to have a 3 night stay in hospital. With an NG tube fitted as he wouldn't take any milk. but he got better and that was the end of it.
Fast forward 7 months little blue has now turned 1. This is when all the trouble really started. Headbutting and punching became a big part of his day. He would for no reason headbutt the walls, the kitchen floor (which is tiled) and anything else for that matter that was hard. He would also punch himself in the face and pull at his hair. My first thought was omg has he got a disability or behavioural issues as that was the only explanation I could think of . This began taking a big tole on us as a family, as big blue would get told off as I was stressed and just seemed to take it out on him, for any little thing he did ! Myself and Andy began getting on each others nerves as we had different ways of dealing with Harry's behaviour. I would ignore the self harm as that was what the professionals told me to do, where as Andy would tell him off as that was what family members had told us to do. It also took a tole on my mental health, I was always tired and grumpy. If I was not grumpy I was sobbing.
I took him to the doctors multiple times as he was bruising his head quite badly at times. I was always given the same answer, "this can be very common in some children". Not happy with being told this so often, I called the health visitor 5 times before anyone called back. Someone finally agreed to come round just before Christmas. When she got here harry had, well lets say made a nice trail of where he had been with poo! Yes it was loose , but that wasn't that uncommon for him. She then told us she didn't want to get ill over Christmas and would be in touch in the new year. Not even giving me a chance to say this can be normal for him.
One day I just thought I am going to try him on lacto free milk, I have no idea why I thought that I guess just mothers intuition. Do you know what? That was back on the 28th December and he is a joy to be around now! Okay, he always was a joy, but he is like a different child now! He still headbutts sometimes, but now only on the sofa or something soft and this is only when he is really upset. His bowel motions are normal no more yellow runny poos! and he just seems to be coming on so much more every day and is happy to play with his big brother or by himself!
I hope that this may help someone, even just one of you personally or pass the information over to another parent that is struggling with their child's behaviour.
